You will join PAL’s Human-Robot Interactions (HRI) team, where we design and implement pioneering algorithms and interactions to facilitate human-robot interaction, with a user-center design approach to maximise adoption of our robots. 

As a member of the team, you will be in charge of the integration of the social and cognitive skills that we develop for our robots: you will put together complex systems, deploy them, and test them on actual robots and real-world settings. To this end, you will also contribute to the creation of challenging test environments for our service robots  as well as building graphical tools to support debugging and data flow within the system.

You will work in close collaboration with the HRI team lead, as well as with external partners (eg, from European/National research consortiums). You will also participate in shaping our R&D priorities in HRI, and provide input to the design of our future social and service robots.

Required skills

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Cognitive Science, or a related field.
• Proficient in English (we work 100% in English);
• Proficient in Python and/or C++ programming language;
• Knowledge of ROS and/or ROS2;
• Experience in developing for Linux OS (Ubuntu);
• Valid EU work permit.

Desired skills and experience

• Being an excellent team player with a proactive team working attitude.
• Excellent communication skills addressing both technical and non-technical profiles (field studies/deployment of robots)
• Creative mind
• At least 3 years of experience participating in projects
• Experience in running human-robot interaction studies in the real-world;
• Experience with real robotic hardware;
• Experience in analysing data (eg statistics with Python or R);
• Experience with revision control systems (Git).
• Soft skills: communication, leadership, motivation, initiative, autonomy, flexibility, team player.
