Job Description

The Rail Crew operator is responsible for safely and efficiently securing steel onto rail carts for transportation. This person conducts inspections of equipment and tools to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly, and housekeeping is adequately maintained. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure the secure transportation of the steel.

Responsibilities:

  • Strapping and securing the steel to the rail cart
  • Operating pneumatic and gas powered tools to secure load to railcar (tools include… chainsaw, nail gun, tensioner, hammer, scissors, etc..)
  • Comply with all SJI’s (Safe Job Instructions), successfully complete all training requirements. Comply with federal, state, and local regulations as they apply to our rail operations.
  • Inspect and operate tools and equipment, report any issues
  • Keep rail area clean and orderly
  • Follow quality standards and comply with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Follow AAR figures to comply with rail car loading guidelines
  • Report any issues, incidents, or hazards to the supervisor on duty
  • Communicate and cooperate with supervisor and coworkers
  • Assist in any mill and yard work as needed
  • Working at height greater than 4’ while utilizing PFPS (personal fall protection system)

Qualifications

  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or GED
