Job Description

PPT is seeking a Software Safety Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama. The Software Safety Engineer will perform software safety activities for the Joint Attack Munitions Systems (JAMS) program. Description of Responsibilities for the Software Safety Engineer: Perform software safety analyses on aviation systems (PHA, FHA, SSA, FTA, FMECA, etc.) and report findings (SAR, PSSA, SSA, etc.) in support of software releases. Identify potential hazards, present them to the System Safety Working Group, and track them to closure. Review software development documents (PSAC, SDP, SSS, SRS, SDD, STD, STR, etc.) and identify non-compliance with published standards and processes.


Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the Software Safety Engineer: Must have a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other software-related engineering program. Must have 5 years of professional experience in software engineering applied to program development, modeling, and simulation. Must have experience in performing safety analyses. Must have experience supporting a rocket or missile system program. Must have experience across the software development life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test). Must be proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must have good communication skills, and ability to interact well with team members, development organizations and customers. Approximately 5% travel may be required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance. Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the Software Safety Engineer: Experience with rigorous software development processes, such as DO-178B[C]. Working knowledge of the requirements of MIL-STD-882E, AMCOM 385-17, and/or DoD Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook. Software IV&V experience.
