Job Description

Become part of a talented team doing impactful work

The energy sector is changing quickly, and we need consultants who can help our clients cope with these changes and create/implement plans that balance the goals of customers, regulators, and shareholders from both a business/regulatory and technical point of view.

Our successful Energy and Utilities practice is looking for skilled experts to help support our current client base and our ambitious growth strategy.

We are looking for consultants with a background in regulated utilities who can work in multi-skilled teams with experience of working with UK energy infrastructure. The ideal candidate would preferably be able to show an understanding of energy price controls and the RIIO framework, and how the management of the physical assets support customer, regulator and sector objectives.

We are looking to hire and develop people of all levels to meet our growing project demand, and who are willing to learn and grow further in a consulting setting. At the same time, we need people who can work independently and are driven self-starters who will impress our clients at this exciting time in the energy transition.

Qualifications

As a part of the team, you will assist in creating and pursuing business opportunities for new and existing clients through your own and PA’s wide network of clients. We excel at bridging the gap between regulatory, engineering, digital and customer languages so you will add new insights to our diverse mix.

Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience of UK energy networks across some of the following areas:

  • Network infrastructure assets and operation including an understanding of the constraints currently faced in the energy transition and applicable national standards and policy
  • Asset investment planning and decision-making including business case development, value frameworks and linkages to regulatory submissions supported by a strong understanding of network performance and risk
  • Asset management including an understanding of industry good practice and line of sight from regulatory/strategic objective to asset cost, performance and risk.
  • The evolution of energy networks including decarbonisation, electrification of heat and transport, the Distribution System Operator (DSO) and National Energy System Operator (NESO)
  • Whole system approaches to solve complex problems more effectively across multiple vectors
  • Innovation and the benefits between innovative practices vs traditional reinforcement
  • Asset health, utilisation, risk and resilience
  • The impact of network and delivery performance on customer experience, corporate reputation and regulatory incentives
  • Programme delivery and operational network management (day to day and exceptional events such as storm response)
  • Unit costs, efficiency opportunities and the Totex model

We would also expect you to have:

  • Strong leadership skills, demonstrating the capacity to lead substantial multidisciplinary and/or economic projects (or elements of),
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written,
  • Relationship building and influencing skills,
  • Academic record, with a degree in engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • The ability to operate successfully in a commercial environment and flourish in an entrepreneurial setting,
  • Experience of working with clients or stakeholders to shape solutions and the drive to effectively manage a project to a successful conclusion,
  • Business development and business leadership skills.

We know the skill-gap and ‘somewhat need to tick every box’ can get in the way of meeting brilliant candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply – we’d love to hear from you.
