Your day to day 

Lead Designers at Astro are expected to not only be involved in design development and the ability to generate fresh, creative solutions, they are expected to lead projects (creatively), manage design teams (to get strong, well-rounded deliverables), and sometimes to educate clients on the nuances of design.  While this is still a very hands-on role, it is at this time that Lead Designers should really affect, direct and influence the other designers on the programs, as well as within the studio culture.

A transition from solely a pure creative force on a project, this is the time to make the “me to we” transition. Acknowledging the needs of not just the client but also the team, and understanding the overall program goals with an objective overview rather than only driving home your own specific design above others.  Keep asking yourself:  “What is in the best interest of the project?”

Lead Designers at ASTRO report directly to the Creative Directors and Associate Creative Directors.

Job Responsibilities

   Activities:

·  Development of product design concepts from client requirements

·  Confirmation of product design specifications with clients

·  Preparation of design specifications via sketching and CAD

·  Articulation and pitching of product design concepts to Directors and teams

·  Development of user scenario and experience storyboards

·  Building physical mock-ups and study models for concept evaluation

·  Oversight of manufacturing and engineering solutions; delivering final specifications as required for  

   prototyping, engineering, manufacturing, etc.

·  Generation of high-resolution renderings

·  Participation in consumer and market research

·  Organization of partnering with external vendors

·  Driving programs to the highest standards of deliverables while adhering to schedule and budget 

   requirements

·  Leading and direction of internal teams in all of the activities above

   Team Collaboration:

·  Will work across multiple disciplines within the core capabilities beyond product industrial  

Design; in user experience design, product strategy and brand communications

·  Will work with the team to evaluate effectiveness of current ID tools and recommend any improvements    

   or new tools

   Rhino, Alias, etc.

·  Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
