Your day to day 

Essential Design is in search of an Industrial Designer, with experience in creating products and experiences that transform people’s lives. 

We are looking for an Industrial Designer to join our Boston studio, who will help us craft our point of view across a range of challenges, from defining ideal user experiences for products new to the market and developing form language to build brand identity, to improve the usability of products. You are passionate about making things that work and will take the initiative to use all the tools in your design toolbox to move projects forward, from jumping into the shop to build mock-ups to test ergonomics, to building beautiful surfaces in Solidworks.   

As a member of our team, you will: 

• Work with the interdisciplinary teams at Essential including Innovation Strategy (to help define the problem to solve), Engineering (to ensure our designs are feasible to manufacture­), and Digital Experience (to develop new and innovative interfaces for our design solutions). 
• Contribute to all phases of the industrial design process including: brainstorming to tap into the creativity of the design team, developing concepts through hand and digital sketch to rapidly capture the big idea, create CAD databases for prototypes, appearance models, and to share with engineering for production, and create documentation to ensure design intent is maintained in the downstream engineering and manufacturing phases of development. 

In short, we are looking for someone to create world-class design that wows our clients and your co-workers and has the skills to convince our clients of the benefits of the design solutions we propose. 

What you bring

• 2-5 years of relevant design experience. 
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. 
• Have knowledge of manufacturing processes and look forward to the opportunity to work closely with engineers. 
• Have excellent narrative skills and experience communicating, presenting, and convincing clients and others of the value of ideas.  
• Have excellent visualization communication skills that range from quick sketches to artfully communicate ideas to creating immersive presentations that visualize the future.  
• Are a Solidworks, Keyshot, and Adobe Suite pro. 
• Have a skill that elevates you beyond your peers. 
• Are ready to share your portfolio of stunning work.
