Job Description

Your day-to-day

As a Service Designer at Essential, you’ll join a diverse and passionate team of strategic, empathetic thinkers who envision and craft services based on deep understanding of customer needs. You’ll work on a range of service design challenges, from startups seeking to define their offering, to corporate ventures interested in new business models, to healthcare entities looking to shape healthy behaviors.

The Service Designer will work alongside other Essential designers, researchers, and strategists to facilitate client workshops, creative brainstorms, and service definition activities. This is your opportunity to be part of a team that is creating positive impact for our clients and the world by creating services that make a difference.

The Candidate:

·       You have a solid working knowledge of service design methods and tools

·       You are fluent in design software and able to quickly build schematics, screen flows, and other digital representations of the service experience.

·       You are comfortable leading conversations and workshops among diverse, multi-functional teams representing product, UX, operations, brand/marketing, and business.

·       Are a systems thinker at heart, constantly connecting and synthesizing in pursuit of concrete outcomes. Thinking at the ecosystem level comes second nature to you.

·       Bonus if you have experience solving for the ‘backstage’ (operations, revenue model, customer service) as well as for ‘frontstage’ UX/CX

·       You excel at using design to communicate complex concepts simply and always strive to make things tangible, whether they’re conversations, frameworks, or ideas

General Responsibilities:

·       Lead project teams through the human-centered design process (discovery, synthesis, ideation, design, and testing of new service concepts).

·       Facilitate workshops and cross-functional working groups to map service flows and dependencies, evaluate tradeoffs, and envision ideal future state experiences.

·       Translate insights and strategy into visual concepts, design intent, and low-fi prototypes

·       Create and update service diagrams, blueprints, and other working schematics, as service definition progresses across a project engagements

·       Craft polished journey maps and illustrated interaction vignettes in Sketch, Figma, and/or Adobe XD
