We are looking for a Principal Electronics Engineer to join our growing healthcare and life sciences team at our technology centre in Melbourn, Herts.

Role specifics

As a Principal Consultant (PC) you should combine technology/problem solving skills with project management and commercial awareness.  Our principal consultants are leaders in their respective fields and form the foundation of our delivery model.  They serve as a deep problem solvers, project managers, sales support and innovators and form the centre of a project delivery team.  You can expect a highly variable role with heavy client contact, hands-on project work and creative space to really own the solutions you are delivering.

We are looking for a principal consultant with experience working in photonics and analogue electronics to join our growing team, with a proven track record of delivering complex products. The ideal candidate will have experience working with multidisciplinary teams to plan, architect, develop and deliver medical devices, diagnostics equipment, or products with a heavy photonics focus.

The ideal candidate will have industrial exposure as an electronics engineer and will also possess the necessary technical breadth and interest to relish the range of opportunities provided in a consulting environment.

Essential skills we are looking for:

  • Well versed in a breadth of core electronics disciplines including analogue and digital circuit design, power electronics and embedded systems.
  • Strong technical ability in the design from first principles of high performance and low noise analogue circuitry for amplification and signal processing of analogue signals. The ideal candidate will have experience integrating sensitive circuits into a wider complex system and an appreciation of the challenges in these designs e.g. EMC.
  • Experience working with highly sensitive optical detection systems. The ideal candidate will have experience working with a range of detector technologies relevant for diagnostics applications such a photodiodes, APDs, PMTs, cooled detectors etc and an appreciation of optical physics and engineering.
  • Experience designing control and monitoring circuitry for diagnostics or instrumentation products – defining the interfaces between the analogue and digital / embedded subsystems and defining data acquisition requirements.
  • Experience architecting complex products or devices and working with multidisciplinary teams of electronics, mechanical and software engineers as well as applied scientists.
  • Confidence presenting and explaining complex engineering concepts to both a technical and non-technical audience.

Qualities:

  • Someone not afraid to be ‘Hands-on’ and work with the team to work through challenges from first principles on the bench.
  • Energy and enthusiasm to take on new challenges in healthcare and life sciences as well as a  diverse range of industry sectors, coupled with the ability to innovate and think freely.
  • Proven track record of working in technology teams on complex project-based assignments

  • Degree qualified – minimum 2:1 (Electronic Engineering, Physics or related subject)
  • Chartered engineer (desirable, but not essential)
