Sustainability Internship

  • Intern

Company Description

Oxwash is re-engineering the laundry industry from the ground up. We aim to deliver clinically clean laundry, with net zero carbon emissions. This has never been accomplished, so we're determined to be the first truly sustainable on-demand laundry company in the world. We currently operate in Oxford, Cambridge and London (Battersea), with big plans to expand across the UK and enter the US market.

We're a tech company at heart and build our own software to power our sustainable laundries and logistics. We're venture-backed, having raised several rounds of funding from notable investors including Biz Stone, the co-founder of Twitter; Paul Forster, the founder of Indeed.com; and Reckitt, the corporate which owns the stain remover Vanish. We announced our ‘Oxwash, powered by Vanish’ partnership in early 2021.

Job Description

Oxwash is looking for a superstar intern to help drive our internal sustainability innovation. You will be an aspiring agent of change, with a deep desire to play your part in the fight against the impending climate crisis. We must act now, tomorrow is too late.

We are looking for an Excel/GSheet wizard to first audit our existing top-down Sustainability models before building a brand new bottom-up Energy and CO2e model. We are working with fellow Oxford Foundry startup, Infogrid, to turn our Battersea site into the world's first ‘smart’ laundry. By installing Infogrid sensors on all of our laundry equipment, we will have granular data on the energy, gas and water consumption throughout the lagoon. You main focus will be to take this data and build the model to calculate the exact resource cost for each item that passes through the Oxwash lagoon.

You’ll be working alongside the Oxwash Chief Sustainability Officer, Tom de Wilton, to implement these projects and will be expected to work autonomously between touch points.

Whilst this is a remote role, it is anticipated that you will need to spend time in all of the lagoons to meet the team and gain a full understanding of the Oxwash processes. As such, being based in the UK is essential.

Qualifications

You'll have:

  • Expert level spreadsheet skills
  • Strong communication, both verbal and written
  • A genuine and deep-seated passion to implement change
  • Experience working autonomously

Other sustainability projects for you to lead on include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • Contributing to the 2021 Oxwash Impact report
  • Conducting an LAC on metal vs plastic vs cardboard garment hangers
  • Introducing a circular garment and linen end of life program
  • Investigating options for second life use of our eCargo bike batteries
  • Managing the Airband air monitoring project
