General Manager, London

  • Full-time

Company Description

Oxwash is re-engineering the laundry industry from the ground up. We aim to deliver clinically clean laundry, with net zero carbon emissions. This has never been accomplished, so we're determined to be the first truly sustainable on-demand laundry company in the world. We currently operate in Oxford, Cambridge and London (Battersea), with big plans to expand across the UK and enter the US market.

We're a tech company at heart and build our own software to power our sustainable laundries and logistics. We're venture-backed, having raised several rounds of funding from notable investors including Biz Stone, the co-founder of Twitter; Paul Forster, the founder of Indeed.com; and Reckitt, the corporate which owns the stain remover Vanish. We announced our ‘Oxwash, powered by Vanish’ partnership in early 2021.

We're looking for incredible people with the passion and skills to deliver our Oxwash mission. Working for a fast growing startup is not your standard 9-5. This may be the toughest job you've ever done, but also the most rewarding! As part of your role, we expect you to help reduce our environmental impact by becoming a role model for sustainability.

Job Description

We need a multi skilled General Manager; someone who's unfazed by the seemingly impossible. You'll need to be level-headed, exceptionally well organised, and able to manage varied projects and tasks concurrently. Communication is key and you'll be expected to build trusting relationships with your team and customers.

Your role is to manage and grow our London operations. You'll lead and develop our operational teams, hiring for vacant positions and providing ongoing training to your team of laundry operatives and delivery riders – the foundation of our business.

Standardisation is key across all of our laundry sites. You'll play a pivotal part in ensuring consistency, from the dosing of detergent in the machines, label and track orders through the Lagoon, to the way we fold a customer's pillow cases. We're building a franchise model and you'll help write our playbook.

You'll be the face of our London operation but you must be prepared to get your hands dirty. You might be planning logistics routes in the morning, fixing a leaky washing machine over lunch, giving an investor a site tour in the afternoon, all while keeping a close eye on the quality of the finished product leaving your branch.

We're proud of our high standards and hands-on company culture, but we want every team member to have fun and love their job! We recognise burnout is real, so we expect you to manage your own time and energy levels, maintaining a healthy balance to ensure consistent performance. Critically, you're also responsible for ensuring every individual in your team does the same.

You'll report to our Head of Operations and work closely with our COO and HQ teams.
