Job Description

Oteemo is a rapidly growing small business. As we are accelerating into our next phase of growth, we are looking for a controller to join our team to provide strategic value to the business. This is a unique opportunity to grow one’s experience as we operate within both the commercial consulting and Federal contracting arenas.  As a controller, you will be responsible for all aspects of financial accounting, planning and analysis. You will work closely with the executive team to define and monitor key financial indicators/metrics. You will define the policies and procedures for good accounting and data management practices. 

You will own the financial and accounting process from cradle to grave. This role has a career progression towards the CFO position.  This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days per week working out of our Reston office.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing all day to day accounting operations - this usually includes Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition. 
  • Coordinating the preparation of budget and financial forecasting and reporting any variances. 
  • Preparing and publishing all monthly financial statements. 
  • Creating reports (annual and monthly) which identifies results, trends and forecasts. 
  • Ensuring all transactions are recorded, filed and reported properly. 
  • Making sure reporting meets compliant standards with statutory law and financial regulations. 
  • Documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain internal controls. 
  • Develop and implement internal control procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Support business activities with Federal contracting - including rate strategy/development, proposal support for cost volumes, and adjusting to changes in Federal regulations.
  • Streamlining and improving all operations and accounting systems. 
  • Coordinating the management of cash flow, debt and debt collection. 
  • Supervising and managing financial department staff as the business scales. 
  • Overseeing the audit process and liaising with external personnel where required. 
  • Support the business with the financial strategy, decision-making processes, and policy development for employees to comply with.
  • Helping the CFO in presenting reports to senior executives and board members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (master's degree preferred).
  • Prior experience in running financial operations within professional services or consulting organizations. 
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and relevant accounting regulations
  • Direct experience working at a government consulting firm - lead DCAA audits, maintain approved accounting systems, and be able to detail cost build ups within price volume for proposals.
  • Understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulations & Cost Accounting Standards
  • Strong experience in Unanet Financials and Unanet Project Portfolio (PSA module).
  • Strong understanding of IT Professional Services business model, business processes and workflows. 
  • Leadership skills to lead and scale a team of financial professionals.
  • Budgeting, forecasting and business report generation experience. 
  • Financial bookkeeping and financial reports generation. 
  • Proficiency with Excel functions at an intermediate level, including large multi-worksheet models, lookups, and pivot tables
