Job Description

As a rockstar lawyer, you will combine your legal skills with your business expertise to help Optimizely build long-standing relationships with prospective customers and partners. Our ideal candidate is a results oriented, performance driven lawyer who is not afraid to challenge the status-quo procurement process and push the boundaries of current laws and regulations. You will be part of a small legal team and contribute to Optimizely’s phenomenal growth. You will work out of our downtown San Francisco headquarters.

What you’ll do:

  • Draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including SaaS licensing, intellectual property, marketing, partnerships sales, support, and strategic agreements.

  • Provide legal advice that our business partners can understand and use without understanding legalese.

  • Oversee legal issues during product development, design and deployment.

  • Understand privacy and data laws and regulations (both US and internationally).

  • Pitch in, learn new areas of practice and do whatever is needed to accomplish Optimizely's mission of turning data into action.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, be responsive and proactive in handling a variety of deals with competing priorities.

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience at a mid to large size firm or in-house at a technology company.

  • J.D. from accredited US law school. Admitted to state bar (California, New York preferred).

  • Experience with technology transactions, enterprise sales, internet business, and software-as-a-service (SaaS).

  • Strong track record of negotiating major strategic transactions.

  • Extensive business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Candidates must be flexible and willing to work extended hours when necessary to complete projects in a timely fashion.

  • Potential travel.

  • Sense of humor not optional.
