Job Description

Optimizely’s Finance and Accounting team supports the operational and strategic decision-making process through business partnerships and by providing insight into how the company performs and develops. Reporting into Optimizely’s VP Controller, the Accounting Manager will own the indirect tax compliance, assist in related accounting close procedures, and be Optimizely’s main domestic accounting manager with our international entities.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare multi-state sales tax returns and filings in Avalara

  • Monitor sales tax exposure and provide recommendations

  • You’ll be the system administrator for Avalara

  • Serve as lead point of contact for state sales and use tax audits

  • Gather and prepare supporting documents and schedules for outside tax preparers

  • Assist with cash reconciliations on foreign bank accounts

  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and create intercompany invoices

  • Assist and gather documents for federal and state tax filings with outside tax providers

  • Ensure all filings are done to maintain good standing compliance with registered state agents

  • Complete various governmental census forms

  • Calculate and submit SF Gross Receipts and SF Payroll tax

  • Monitor foreign cash balances and initiate cash transfers as needed

  • Facilitate filing of various tax and governmental applications, permits and other legal forms

  • Complete various month-end accruals and reconciliations

  • Assist with ad hoc projects as needed

Qualifications

  • 5 - 6 years of experience in a related field

  • BS Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience in a related field

  • Experience using Avalara

  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel including vlookups and pivot tables.

  • Experience with Netsuite a plus

  • Must have excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal

  • Able to work independently and self-motivate with a flexible can-do attitude
