Open Space Technician I

We are the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority. Our mission is to conserve the natural environment, support agriculture and connect people to nature by protecting open spaces, natural areas, and working farms and ranches for future generations.
We have protected nearly 20,000 acres of natural and agricultural lands in Santa Clara County. Our agency operates a network of open space lands to manage and conserve natural resources and provide compatible opportunities for hiking, biking, and equestrian uses.
You are a hard-working and motivated individual with basic maintenance experience, who enjoys being outdoors, working with your hands and takes pride in providing an excellent user experiences on our open space lands. You can perform a wide variety of semi-skilled carpentry, building and field maintenance duties using hand and power tools such as chain saws, mowers, sprayers and similar equipment; as well as performing routine maintenance and repair of assigned tools and equipment facilities.
We are seeking a qualified technician to take responsibility for routine clean up and maintenance of Authority lands including trails, roads, building and other facilities. Candidates need to have knowledge of basic operations, services and activities of an open space maintenance and construction program; basic principles and practices of maintenance and construction and resource management; standard safety; and basic trade skills in plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
Your experience in open space field maintenance and resource management enables you to perform well under general supervision and respond to requests and inquiries as necessary. You enjoy engaging members of the public by communicating the mission, vision and goals of the OSA by answering basic questions and interacting with visitors and neighbors in a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful manner.
This position is for the closing shift, exact hours will vary throughout the year, based on seasonal changes and sunset times. Weekend work is required.
- High School diploma, or the equivalent.
- Experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's license by time of appointment and have a satisfactory driving record.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification desirable.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work independently.
Pay range begins at $26.10 per hour. Dependent on qualifications. This is a full‐time, benefited position. This position is required to work evenings and weekends.
This position is required to take and pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
