Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

The benefits to Ontario!

Faster, more frequent, and reliable access to rapid transit with more than 227,500 people will live within a 10-minute walk of an Ontario Line station.

  • Improve the quality of life for commuters by reducing daily travel time.
  • Reduce crowding on the existing Line 1 (Yonge-University) subway.
  • Up to 57,000 more jobs accessible by transit (in 45 minutes or less) for Toronto residents.
  • Economic and community growth along the future transit line and thousands of job opportunities annually during construction.
  • Reduction in traffic congestion, greenhouse gases, and fuel consumption by providing an alternative transportation option.

Job Description

The Construction Technical Office (CTO) is a department within the Design Team of the Contractor that comes into play once the IFC documentation has been issued and construction activities are in full swing. The successful candidate will join the CTO Team and reporting to the CTO Manager will:

  • Work very closely with the Construction Team to coordinate with our Designers any design changes and design related issues that will inevitably happen during construction. These issues will be related to the IFC documentation and will be in the form of Request For Information (RFI), Field Change Request (FCR), Non-Conformance (NCR), Notice of Design Change (NDC)…
  • Attend, organize, or lead regular meetings and ad-hoc meetings with the Construction Team and the Designers.
  • Track the performance of the Designers in terms of their responses to RFI, FCR, NDC, NCR… as well as their review of shop drawings, evaluating potential impacts on the Construction Schedule.
  • Prepare, update regularly, and track the schedule of shop drawings and other design submittals reviewed by our Designers.
  • Review, in accordance with the Project Specifications and local standards, and with the support of the Discipline Lead Managers, shop drawings prepared by our Subcontractor’s Designers. • Prepare and distribute to all parties on a regular basis any redlines and IFC drawings markups arisen from RFI, FCR, NDC… These redlines and markups will form part of the as-built documentation that will eventually be required for the Record Drawings.
  • Deal and coordinate design related issues between different departments such as our Construction Team, Means and Methods Team, Quality Team and other teams within the Design Team (Architecture, MEP, Traffic…), addressing any potential conflicts in the most beneficial way for the project as a whole.
  • Provide all necessary inputs to track the Designer’s cost (ESDC, Engineering Services During Construction), based on the Time and Material invoices that we will receive during construction.
  • Regularly visit the relevant construction sites as required.
  • Attend meetings with our Client and their Technical Advisor as required.
  • Other duties as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
