Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description
The Miners - Unionized role is crucial for the excavation and tunneling activities on the Ontario Line South project. This position involves operating and maintaining mining equipment, ensuring safe and efficient excavation processes, and supporting the construction of the subway tunnel.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate mining equipment such as tunnel boring machines (TBMs), roadheaders, and other excavation tools.
Conduct pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on mining equipment.
Follow excavation plans and ensure tunneling activities adhere to project specifications.
Monitor and manage tunnel support systems, including shotcrete, rock bolts, and other reinforcement techniques.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols in all mining activities.
Record and report daily production metrics, equipment usage, and any issues encountered.
Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to optimize excavation efficiency.
Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to maintain high safety standards.
Support the installation of tunnel utilities, including ventilation, lighting, and communication systems.
Assist with the removal of excavated material and ensure proper disposal practices are followed.
Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in underground mining or tunneling operations.
Experience operating mining equipment, such as TBMs, roadheaders, and other excavation tools.
Strong understanding of tunneling methods and techniques.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in underground mining.
Ability to read and interpret excavation plans and technical drawings.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in mining operations.
Must be physically fit and able to work in confined spaces.
