Job Description

At Olsson, we help our clients proactively comply with complicated regulatory processes and provide our clients with the latest and best methods of documentation, remediation, and restoration. The Assistant Scientist role is an entry-level, developmental position that performs a variety of routine scientific assignments that strengthen knowledge and experience with scientific staff, methods, practices, and programs while under direct supervision. This position assists with generating ideas and developing purposeful, high-quality solutions that help balance the needs of our clients and the benefits to the environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with data collection and research for scientific assignments utilizing familiarity
  • with standard techniques and established methods.
  • Performs entry-level data evaluation and receives clearly defined instructions for necessary tasks.
  • Gains knowledge and experience working within design, modeling, and/or geographic information systems.
  • May work in the office, lab, or field, assisting with standard scientific samples, field observations, and data collection assignments.
  • Works under the direction of senior staff to perform field investigations, collect data, and document field procedures.
  • Receives guidance from senior level staff to assist with data analysis from reports, maps, drawings, samplings, tests, and/or aerial photographs to help with plans and permits for projects.
  • Contributes to limited portions of a broader project while under direct supervision.
  • Gathers and prepares research to assist with the assembly of technical reports.
  • May provide mentoring to student interns by answering questions and offering guidance with routine assignments.
  • May travel and work in all types of terrain and weather conditions at project sites in various stages of construction.

  • Has working knowledge (or the ability to become proficient) in applicable technologies.

  • Has a valid driver’s license and a good driving history.
  • Has a willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel as required.
