Job Description

Olsson is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation/Transit Planner to join our team and lead the development of innovative transportation and transit solutions that positively impact communities. In this role, you will serve as a key technical expert, providing guidance and leadership in all aspects of urban and rural transit and transportation planning. You will be involved in multimodal corridor studies, subarea studies, regional transportation plans, technical support, and policy development. The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating and interacting with clients and presenting to groups of all sizes.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure project development meets quality standards and objectives.
  • Provide strategic guidance on complex transit and transportation projects.
  • Collaborate with teams to streamline workflows and improve project delivery.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and attend public meetings to inform planning strategies.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, promoting professional growth.
  • Use GIS mapping and spatial analysis to create project solutions.
  • Prepare reports and memos with actionable recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and present to diverse audiences.
  • Navigate federal transit funding programs and compliance tasks.
  • Lead transit-specific public engagement efforts.
  • Address infrastructure and land use issues affecting transit.

Periodic travel for project-related tasks and business development efforts is required.

*We have one current opening and will consider candidates interested in being located out of our Plano or Fort Worth office location.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously, demonstrating initiative, self-motivation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, geography, or a related field.
  • Certified Planner (AICP), preferred. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in transportation / transit planning. 
  • Experience in ArcGIS or ArcPro software. 
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving history.
