Job Description

The ITS Project Engineer will function as a critical support to the transportation team, applying a diversified array of engineering principles to a multitude of tasks within the Intelligent Transportation Systems domain. This role is expected to make independent decisions on engineering nuances and methodologies, using both traditional and pioneering techniques.


  • Assist in crafting and implementing ITS strategies, ensuring projects align with overarching objectives.
  • Collaborate with various Olsson teams, maintaining a smooth flow of information between all involved parties.
  • Lead design components of ITS projects, ensuring they adhere to both industry and Olsson standards.
  • Create and update planning/design documents and maintain comprehensive project records.
  • Act as a key liaison between Olsson and clients, attending meetings and providing updates on project progress.
  • Conduct design calculations, formulate cost estimates, and provide comparative economic analyses for ITS alternatives.
  • Guide and train junior staff, sharing knowledge and ITS best practices.
  • Oversee select small-scale ITS projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
  • Visit ITS project sites periodically for assessments, observations, and to ensure real-world applicability of designs.

We have one current opening and will consider candidates interested in being located out of our Chandler, AZ or Phoenix, AZ office location.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Registered professional engineer.
  • Six years of experience in transportation and/or ITS.
