Job Description

*This position will be based out of our Des Moines, IA office and will require relocation.

Olsson survey teams provide our engineers and clients a full range of land surveying and geospatial services including traditional survey mapping, 3D laser scanning, and UAV mapping. As a Survey Crew Chief for the Des Moines, IA Survey Team, you will direct and perform field work for a variety of projects which can include Survey Plats, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Construction Layout, and other surveying related task. Additional duties include also be responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and survey trucks, the safety of the crew and ensuring that you and the survey crew comply with company policies and procedures. You will travel to job sites in and around the Des Moines metro and the work will be conducted in a wide variety of weather and terrain.

You bring to the team:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to contribute and work well on a team
  • A high school diploma or associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Land Surveying.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of progressive survey experience performing a full range of land survey duties.
  • Proficiency with Trimble, Leica, Topcon, Sokkia, or other land surveying equipment (one or more).
  • Perform survey calculations related to the percent of slope, angles, bearings, and coordinates.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. 
  • The ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to works in all weather conditions and stand or walk for long periods.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. 
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

The typical hourly salary range for this position is $23 to $37, and is commensurate with experience relative to the position.
