Job Description

*This position will be based out of our Des Moines, IA office and will require relocation.

Olsson survey teams provide our engineers and clients a full range of land surveying and geospatial services including traditional survey mapping, 3D laser scanning, and UAV mapping. As an Associate Geospatial Technician for the Des Moines, IA Survey Team, you will perform geospatial production tasks including but not limited to:

  • Relocation to Des Moines, IA
  • Performing 3D Scanning
  • Conducting UAV flights or flight assistance
  • Processing of geospatial data, including evaluating accuracy and sufficiency, and ensuring compliance to an applicable project and industry standards related to aerial and LiDAR mapping products
  • Registering of LiDAR point clouds
  • Classification of LiDAR point clouds
  • Compilation of mapping features from LiDAR point clouds

  • Strong communication skills

  • Interested in land surveying, 3D laser scanning, UAV/drones, geospatial technology, building communities
  • A high school diploma or college degree with a willingness to learn an in-demand profession while being paid, with
  • 0-3 years experience in CAD
  • 0-3 years experience with spreadsheets or GIS tools
  • 0-3 years experience with orthorectification
  • 0-3 years progressive experience with LiDAR classification
  • 0-3 years experience with compilation from LiDAR or stereo imagery
  • Computer and technology skills, including Auto CAD and/or MicroStation and MS Office Suite
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

The typical hourly salary range for this position is $18 to $22 and is commensurate with experience relative to the position.
