 You will be apart of  an extortionary and exciting company! The Construction accountant will work with the Projects Team to calculate and oversee all finances of various construction projects. This role requires the successful candidate to have a background in real estate/ development/ construction as well as be onsite downtown Toronto.

Job Description

  • Maintain accounting of construction projects including retainage held from contractors
  • Communicate routinely with Project Managers on a variety of job related topics including budgets, insurance and contract agreements
  • Work with the Projects team to audit construction progress billings and any related capital projects
  • Prepare billings for payment/re-imbursement from partners and landlords
  • Maintain capital assets accounting; prepare schedules of additions and deductions to capital assets schedules for each project and entity
  • Preparing project budgets, including cost schedules, and working with field personnel to stay within those budgets—communicating any variances to upper management, and re-budgeting or re-forecasting as necessary
  •  Assist in managing the individual project cash flows
  •  Review and approve all construction invoices before forwarding to the accounts payable team
  •  Prepare reporting and budgeting as required by Senior Management analytics on a regular basis
  • Work with project management staff ensuring proper compliance with accounting procedures including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates and reports monthly
  • Develop written accounting procedures for the operations and project staff and work with team to ensure proper implementation and compliance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Professional CPA designation or working towards the designation.
  • Background in construction, development, real estate required
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience with enterprise level accounting systems; Microsoft Navision preferred
  • Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Excel experience
  • Familiarity with hospitality and/or construction company is an asset
  • Collaborative individual who can work well with all levels of the organization
