Job Description

The Health and Food Safety Specialist is responsible for consulting and liaising with operations to develop and maintain a health and food safety culture and compliance throughout the Back of House and Front of House departments.   

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides support to management staff by communicating safety promotion plans, goals, objectives, measurements; and, fosters strong relationships with operations in order to gain commitment on initiatives
  • Seeks continuous improvement to safety adherence by conducting regular health and food safety inspections and audits at each location, as well as providing input into the implementation of subsequent action plans
  • Develop and deliver health and safety learning solutions for management and employees, including instructor-led and e-learning, as well as on-the-job training
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with legislative requirements
  • Prepare reports on individual location and company-wide trends, improvements and areas of focus
  • Maintain an active role within the Joint H&S Committee
  • Assist HR Department with Talent Management, Health & Safety, Benefits, Recruitment and Training & Development initiatives, as appropriate
  • Additional duties and responsibilities, as required

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Human Resources Management and/or Health & Safety, an asset
  • Food industry and support services background, an asset
  • Knowledge and practical application experience of Ministry of Public Health standards, Toronto Public Health requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines
  • Certified Food Handler Certificate, 1st Aid/CPR Certificate, WHMIS Training certificate
  • Demonstrated strong independent judgment
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large and variable work load, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned work
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and ability to prioritize work based on business needs 
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Team player
