Comptroller Jack Schnirman serves as the fiscal watchdog for Nassau County, which has a population of 1.3 million people and an annual budget of $2.6 billion. Comptroller Schnirman and his staff: 
Monitor Nassau’s budget and financial operations

• Audit government agencies and agencies with county contracts to uncover waste and abuse
• Review county contracts and claims
• Report on matters that significantly affect Nassau’s financial health and operations
• Work with the administration and legislature to help the county overcome its fiscal challenges
• Prepare Nassau’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
• Administer the county payroll and employee health benefits functions

Intern will assist with several account balance analyses and the preparation and issuance of the County’s financial statements. Other duties will be assigned as needed. Interns will gain an understanding of the financial statements and governmental standards that the County must meet. Intern will report to Chief Deputy Comptroller. Intern applicants must be residents of Nassau County, NY.

Applicants should be analytical and comfortable working independently when necessary. Strong communication skills are required as the individual will have to document his or her analyses and will assist in proofing the financial statements. This position requires a proactive candidate interested in gaining meaningful experience.

Prospective interns are required to be pursuing an accounting degree. There is not a need for a candidate who plans on becoming a CPA, although that is preferable.
