Position Summary

 

Performs a variety of operations to construct or repair tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs, or dies requiring the use of ordinary tool room operations. This work may involve accurate relationships and close tolerances.

 

Essential Functions 

·         Have comprehensive knowledge of machine shop practices and machining techniques

·         Be proficient with measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gages, etc.

·         Understands the proper use of hand and power tools

·         Verifies proper fit and function of machined components

·         Practical experience operating metalworking machinery such as mills, lathes, drill presses, and saws

·         Performs precision work to exacting tolerances

·         Layout work from blueprints or sketches applying advanced shop math and formulas to compute dimensions

·         Must have knowledge of standard cutting tools such as mills, drills, reamers, boring bars, tool bits, form tools and understand proper clearances and relief angles for sharpening and maintenance of tooling

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    • Ability to read blueprints (including GD&T callouts), basic math skills up to and including trigonometry and proficiency in the use of basic hand gages are all required

    Education / Experience

    • High School Diploma/ GED and a minimum of 8 years’ machine shop experience operating mills, lathes, drill press, band saw, surface grinder and other essential machine tools or having successfully completed an apprenticeship program with similar experience is required
