Job Description
The Geologist - Mining position’s role is to safely and efficiently collect, interpret, and generate geological information related to Ore Control. The geologist should actively participate in efforts to minimize dilution and maximize the value of material sent to the process plant and long-term stockpiles.
1. Core Responsibilities
- Geological mapping, core/chip logging, field sampling.
- Competent in textural classification of rocks and taking structural measurements
- Understand Ore Movement and dilution, be proactive in addressing operational needs.
- Maintain best practices related to material routing, and misroute reporting
2. Software Organization
- Interpretate geological information
- Update and maintain a geological model, for short range use.
- Use of Geological Software
- Vulcan, Deswik, Leapfrog, acQuire
3. Process & Procedures
- Identify shortcomings in compliance processes, systems, and procedures
- Develop ad hoc solutions to problems within an assigned unit or discipline.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology
- 1+ year of mining or exploration experience preferred
- Experience in logging, mapping and interpreting geology related to ore forming processes
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability to work in both office and operational mining environments
- Ability to regularly access active mining and processing areas to support operational teams, conduct site visits, investigations, coaching, and workforce engagement activities
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and access elevated work areas as required
- Ability to wear and use mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday
