Job Description

Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geology looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have 2 internship opportunities for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.  

These paid internship opportunities will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicants) working with our talented Exploration Geology team on-site at Macraes. 9-day fortnight roster: 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7am – 4:30pm daily.

What will you be doing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

Learn how to geologically log diamond drill core and assist with the development of an exploration program to test downdip extension of mineralisation within the Hyde Macraes Shear Zone.

Qualifications

  • Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
  • Unrestricted New Zealand working rights
  • Available from mid-November 2026 through to mid-February 2027
  • In your 2nd last or final year of role-related study
  • Ideally have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru or surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily
  • Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and visualisation platforms is a plus
