Job Description
OceanaGold is seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager – Internal Audit to lead and uplift our internal audit function across the Asia Pacific region, with a primary focus on our operations in the Philippines and New Zealand, and occasional support for our US operations in South Carolina.
This strategic Brisbane‑based position requires a professional capable of developing, coaching, and leading locally based resources to enhance the effectiveness and reach of our internal audit capabilities. The role plays a pivotal part in our global risk management framework, contributing significantly to operational excellence, strong governance, and compliance across the Asia Pacific region.
- Lead the internal audit function within the Asia Pacific region, ensuring effective audit strategies and processes aligned with global standards and regional requirements.
- Collaborate with the Head of Risk and Internal Audit to elevate the maturity of the internal audit function and provide strategic insights to strengthen operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
- Contribute to the development of the annual internal audit plan in partnership with the Head of Risk and Internal Audit.
- Develop, coach, and mentor internal audit staff based in the Philippines.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and audits across regional operations, focusing on risk management, internal controls, and governance frameworks.
- Manage and oversee the planning and execution of audit assignments to ensure timely, high‑quality delivery.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and all applicable local, state, and international regulations.
- Communicate audit findings, insights, and recommendations effectively to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Build cross‑functional partnerships to understand business processes, identify risks, and recommend pragmatic, actionable solutions.
- Provide occasional support to our US operations in South Carolina, contributing to global alignment and consistency in internal audit practices.
- Apply effective people management practices, including planning, task assignment, performance coaching, and capability development.
- Conduct performance appraisals, manage IR issues appropriately, and support career development and succession planning within the team.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships to support a high‑performance, engaged workforce.
Qualifications
- Professional accounting or auditing qualification is essential (e.g., CA/CPA, CIA, CISA).
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in risk management, internal audit, and internal controls.
- Experience with ICFR/SOX is required.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including developing and mentoring teams, ideally within the Asia Pacific region.
- Mining or heavy industry experience is preferred but not essential.
- Experience within a Big 4 accounting firm is highly regarded.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25–30% of the time.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
