The Geologist – Resource Development - is responsible for carrying out geological functions related to near mine resource development and exploration projects related to drilling campaigns in immediate proximity to the Waihi Mining Operations. The role includes responsibility for the collection and management of geological data and technical support for the company's drilling activities.

The Resource Development Geologist may be required to support Mine Geologists on occasions with geological functions related to ore control and regional exploration activities including collection of mapping, sampling and geophysical data.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Production/Operational:

  • Produce drillhole designs for resource/reserve definition drilling at drill spacing required to produce indicated/measured resources for mine design.
  • Support the execution of the diamond drill programme as per drill designs. Provide input into amendments to the programme and design additions to the programme as required. 
  • Participate in geological reviews and delineation of high-value targets within the Brownfield environment.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of appropriate drilling schedules, budgets and strategies to delivery resource conversion objects on time and on budget.
  • Undertake logging of drill core in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide support and coverage for the Project Geologist as requirement in overseeing the routine activities of the department.
  • Ensure timely delivery of model inputs as required including provision of appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Actively participate in identification and implementation of projects
  • Conduct Task Observations and Inspections on a regular basis.
  • Management and liaison with our drilling contractors to ensure they conform to quality and safety, standards as stipulated in the drilling contract.
  • Ensure Departmental Compliance with statutory acts and regulations and consent conditions.
  • Assist with Resource Development projects including void modelling, geological modelling and geometallurgy campaigns on an as required basis.
  • Other activities as required to support the mining and exploration activities of the company.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Qualification – B Sc. Geology with Honours or honours equivalent
  • Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred

Experience:

  • 2 Years Post-Graduate experience
  • Experience in underground mining operations
  • Sound technical skills in Mine or Exploration Geology
  • Mapping and Interpretation skills
  • Sampling Theory
  • Strong PC skills and computer literacy
