Job Description

Seeking a suitably qualified and reliable Environment Advisor – Laboratory and Monitoring to assist in the supervision of the whole operation of the environment Laboratory and Monitoring Unit and Establish and implement a systematic, proactive, and effective environmental processes and programs for the attainment of zero harm to workers, environment, and communities related to environmental monitoring, assessment, research, and studies. The role will report to the MEPEO/Environment Supervisor.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Supervises the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results;
  • Performs statistical analysis, interprets and evaluates results, prepares reports and/or presentations;
  • Monitors the alteration, modification, and installation of pollution control facilities to improve pollution mitigation capability;
  • Tracks and analyses budget variances, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations;
  • Closely monitors and reviews the project engineers’ or project coordinators’ reports to evaluate the progress of contractors and coordinates work according to approved project plans;
  • Resolves contractor issues within their level of authority to ensure compliance with approved project plans and safety protocols;
  • Oversees actual preparation and timely submission of documents, budgets and all necessary information for proposal development; and
  • Prepares documents, plans, and presentations needed for the cascading of IMS implementation to ensure understanding and acceptance of strategic objectives and plans.

Qualifications

  • Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way;
  • Licensed Chemist; Graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry;
  • With minimum of 2 years working experience in Environmental laboratory preferably in a mining set-up, 3 years if no prior experience in mining;
  • Proficient with environmental legislations preferably pertaining to pollution control acts and regulations (RA 6969, RA 9003, RA 9275, RA 8749, DAO 22, DAO 2016-08, DAO 2021-19, and other relevant laws);
  • Qualified to be accredited as a Category B Pollution Control Officer (PCO) by EMB is an advantage;
  • With interpersonal and good communication skills both verbal and written; and
  • With a valid Professional Driver’s license is an advantage.
