Job Description

OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified and reliable Control Room Operator to optimize performance of all operating circuits within the plant, whilst working safely and efficiently, by following sound operating philosophies and standard operating procedures and actively participating in the departmental training scheme to ensure optimization of the plant occurs at all times. The role will report to the Supervisor – Process Operations.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Achieve plant production and utilization target
  • Operate any section of the plant in accordance with metallurgical guidelines and given set of operating parameters through Distributed Control System (DCS)
  • Operate plant in ranges set and following directives given
  • Assist in mill shutdowns, mechanical, electrical and metallurgical activities if required or directed by the supervisor
  • Ensure that the products produced under their supervision meet all specification set by the Metallurgy
  • Maintain detailed reports of operation completing and updating log sheets, logbooks, and checklists accurately and on time each shift
  • Report to supervisor any damage equipment or at-risk situation that could lead to plant shutdown
  • Attend functional trainings and development programs
  • Complete all required Standard Operating Procedures Sign-Off
  • Cross training to other areas of the processing plant if directed by the supervisor
  • Take the area competency assessment as required for the operator progression program

Qualifications

  • Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Corp. Values and the OceanaGold Way
  • At least college level
  • With at least five (5) years minimum experience in ore processing operations with highly knowledgeable in Distributed Control System
  • Have a thorough knowledge experience working in Crushing, Flotation, Sag/Ball Milling or Filtration and dewatering
  • With previous processing plant experience, or similar, local and abroad is highly regarded
  • Knowledge of generating unit operation, engineering, or maintenance practices
  • Ability to operate various switches, control devices and valves, and knowledge of the effect each has on total plant operations
  • Ability to read and interpret P&ID’s, schematic diagrams, PI trends, procedures, and technical manuals
  • Familiar with “permit to work” systems, isolation procedures and safety management systems
  • Has a depth, firm and quick troubleshooting skills during process upsets;
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal skills
  • Methodical by nature, and able to follow systems and procedures
  • Team Worker, able to build working relationships with colleagues
  • Have a flexible and professional approach to duties
