Job Description

OceanaGold are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Senior Geologist – Mine Geology who will be responsible in enforcing a grade control system to ensure quality of ore production is obtained as well as the quality and quantity of the ore delivered to the mill, supervise Resource Definition drilling, as well as other sampling and mapping campaigns, to better understand and consequently communicate results to the Mining Tech Services, Mining Management and Process and Surface Operations Teams to effectively inform said teams to make timely and efficient decisions.. The role will report to the Principal Mine Geologist.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with mine planning engineers with regards to drilling schedule and activities
  • Responsible for QAQC of drill holes—collar pick up, downhole survey
  • Maintain an auditable drill holes, ore production, and stockpile accounting database
  • Maintain an auditable database of sampling information and assay results;
  • Perform geologic core log
  • Manage the core processing activities such as Magsus, pXRF, Terraspec and core photo activities and daily core sample dispatch
  • Manage project work for XRF, Clay mineral analysis, and alteration mapping
  • Work with Survey team on the reconciliation of stockpile balances to volume surveys
  • Conduct variance study on all production data, develop action plan for variances that can be addressed
  • Prepare reports that reconcile mineral resource estimates with grade control estimates and mill production estimates
  • Identify sources of reconciliation variances and propose action plans for communication to concerned parties
  • Communicate with underground mine operations, surface operations and survey team with regards to reconciliation and variances
  • Monitor subordinates in their performance and direct their activities as necessary to ensure project requirements are achieved
  • Actively look for opportunities to implement cost savings without effecting safety, schedule or quality

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology
  • Licensed Engineer
  • Minimum of 8 years working experience in Open Pit or Underground Geology / and 4 years of experience in gold systems
  • With a valid Professional Driver’s license
  • With experience in QAQC auditing
  • Proficient in 3D software packages (Leapfrog, Minesight, Surpac, Deswik, etc)
  • Possess strong drive for health and safety management
  • With strong management and leadership skills
  • Drive for continuous improvement and innovation
