Job Description

An Inventory/Book keeper Accountant manages inventory accuracy, records financial transactions, and prepares reports, ensuring financial integrity and compliance. They are responsible for recording accurate inventory transactions, reconciling inventory records, and preparing reports for management. Their duties also include analysing inventory trends, identifying discrepancies, and collaborating with other departments to improve inventory management.

Track and manage the company’s inventory.

This includes maintaining inventory records, conducting physical inventory counts, and reconciling inventory records to physical counts.

Ensure that inventory levels are accurate. This includes identifying and correcting inventory errors, and recommending inventory levels based on sales forecasts and demand.

Properly account for inventory. This includes ensuring that inventory is properly classified and valued, and that inventory transactions are recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Establish and uphold Inventory Management Protocols  Record all financial transactions in the accounting system.

Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger. Reconcile bank statements and other accounts.

Prepare and analyze financial reports, including income statements and balance sheets.

Prepare reports on inventory levels, costs, and variances.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and company policies.

Support month-end and year-end closing processes.

Internal Controls: It is crucial to implement and oversee procedures to safeguard assets and keep the precision of financial information, known as internal controls. Inventory Accountants ensure inventory records are accurate by enhancing systems for reporting, reconciling, and auditing inventory to prevent discrepancies and fraud.

Develop and maintain inventory control systems.

Report all risks and exposures identified.

Identify any additional controls required based on risks and exposures identified.

Assist in inventory audits.

Collaborate with other departments on inventory-related issues

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field

At least 6 years of experience working in an inventory accounting role Knowledge of:

Excellent knowledge of accounting principles

Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software

Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Operational and field experience

Factory and/or warehouse stock experience

Mining/extraction/soft commodities experience is a bonus

Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel
