There is an exciting opportunity in OUTsurance’s Marketing
department for a skilled and seasoned Traditional Media Specialist to lead a dynamic team. The person must be self-motivated with an extreme passion for marketing and the strategy behind it, and must be able to compile in depth reporting and interpret data to identify analytical trends to make recommendations upon findings. This person must be able to function well in a diverse team. The successful applicant must be able to multitask and prioritise and work under extreme pressure.

Job Description

  • Initially to manage the Radio and Outdoor Media portfolio but also have oversight on and secondary accountability to TV and Print media.  
  • Negotiations of  deals with media partners. 
  • Building relationships with our account executives and media owners. 
  • Evaluation of all ATL media and sponsorship proposals. 
  • Daily in-depth analysis of marketing performance data. Be guided by the outcome of reports to give input and recommendation on the spend and spot picking strategy of media sources to make sure that performance is optimal. 
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting in MS Excel, and written in report format in MS Word. 
  • Manage and take responsibility of allocated advertising budget given by the Media Manager.  
  • Work with Nielsen data in Excel format to build Share of Voice graphs and reports for the business. 
  • Tracking of AV on all media  sources. 
  • Compile competitor behaviour and competitor media spend reports. 
  •  Ad-hoc analysis of media spend, spots, performance etc. on top of normal reporting as and when requested from the business. 
  • Assist in writing short, creative briefs for the creative team for Radio, TV, Print and Outdoor ideas and executions.  
  • Daily lead tracking per media, per station and give recommendations to optimize performance. 
  • Checking and signing of ATL invoices. 
  • Make recommendations on new advertising mediums to improve lead generations 
  • Set up, tracking and maintenance of all our SMS call to action numbers in our internal systems. 
  • Allocation of SMS numbers to different media types – making sure there are no clashes and that logical keywords are used. 
  • Be the liaison between ATL team and the warehouse team to make sure the team`s data is always captured and included in the company`s warehouse. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Solid understanding of the media industry at large. 
  • Good understanding of direct response advertising. 
  • Good knowledge of direct competitors and their different strategies. 
  • Self-starter, must take ownership of all projects and day-today tasks. 
  • Very strong numerical skills. Must enjoy working with numbers on a daily basis. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including working with large sets of data, intricate formulas and pivot tables) is a must and not negotiable. 
  • Strong analytical skills in order to make well informed decisions and recommendations. 
  • Strong communication skills in order to communicate recommendations and concerns with your marketing team and media partners. 
  • Knowledge of compiling competitor behaviour and competitor media spend reports for all products. 
  • A good understanding of Telmar and a background of media bookings and scheduling in all media types will be a distinct advantage. 
  • Strong skills working with Nielsen 
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and meet tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to prioritise workload, and multi-task. 
  • Excellent negotiator and must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must have strong organizational and administrative skills. 
  •  Must be able to plan ahead. 
  • Excellent existing relationship with partners in the media industry at large 
  • Work individually and cohesive as a team

Qualifications

  • Matric  
  • HG Mathematics in matric with a high pass grade/ Mathematics (70% and above) 
  • Completed Marketing diploma or Marketing bachelor’s degree 
  • Statistics and/or mathematics as a subject at tertiary level will be beneficial 
  • Advance Excel course will be beneficial

Experience

  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in media management and marketing.
  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience in a leadership role where a big team was managed.
