Job Description

Scope & Impact:

As a part of O-I’s Co-op with our Quality Leadership Development Program, you will have the opportunity to learn from the best in the glass business at our global headquarters in Perrysburg, OH.

Our 12-16 week rotational program includes quality and manufacturing training and will prepare you for a successful and long-lasting career at O-I. You will be offered challenging and diverse opportunities while being supported through a structured learning and development program as you work as a project engineer. You will have access to a variety of on the job learning activities, networking and social activities.

Your Co-op experience with O-I will provide challenge and broaden your exposure to our industry and our organization. As you continue to grow, you’ll take on more independent work, acquire a skill set that contributes to your group’s success, and help shape our future.  You’ll learn our technology, business and processes and gain a solid foundation in manufacturing operations. The Quality Leadership Development Program prepares you for technical and supervisory roles in the areas of manufacturing and quality within our North American plants.

Reporting Relationships:

The position reports to the North America Regulatory & Compliance Manager.

 During the co-op development program, you’ll:

  • Perform a variety of tests, analyses, and studies related to the improvement of glass container quality.
  • Apply your problem solving skills and knowledge of various statistical tools and methods to design studies, and conduct quality and complaint analyses.
  • Participate in the evaluation and testing of new container designs.
  • Work with O-I manufacturing plants and customers to investigate glass container quality and/or manufacturing issues.
  • Conduct measurements and write reports to summarize and communicate quality analyses.
  • Learn various facets of the plant process including: batch and furnace operations, forming machines, equipment, inspection, packaging, and quality assurance systems.
  • Gain a well-rounded background in plant operations, customer relations, and manufacturing management. This may include travel to O-I manufacturing facilities and to O-I customers as well as regular interactions with corporate and manufacturing personnel.

Qualifications

The co-op participants should have:

  • Natural curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments to meet objectives with strong attention to detail
  • High level of motivation and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Desire to ultimately lead and develop a team of people

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering, Operations, or Manufacturing Technology discipline or comparable work experience. Desired degrees include: Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Manufacturing, Ceramic and Glass, Maintenance and Industrial Technology, Operations Management and Material Science
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis (O-I does not sponsor working visas for internships or co-ops)
  • Targeted graduation date: May 2024 through December 2025
