Job Description

In this role, you will take ownership of indirect tax compliance across multiple European jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and alignment with local VAT regulations and internal standards. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop expertise in VAT, ESL, and Intrastat while working in a dynamic international environment and contributing to process improvements and regulatory projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation, review and submission of Indirect Tax returns (VAT, ESL, Intrastat) across assigned jurisdictions
  • Take ownership of VAT compliance and reporting processes for multiple European countries, ensuring alignment with local regulations and internal standards
  • Oversee VAT settlement process, including clearing and closing of transactions
  • Perform and review selected indirect tax postings and settlements (including JE and related payments), ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting and statutory requirements
  • Support and contribute to setup and maintenance of VAT logic and tax determination in ERP systems (e.g. SAP), working closely with Finance and IT
  • Participate in and take an active role in VAT-related projects, particularly related to implementation of new regulatory requirements (e.g. e-invoicing, SAF-T, digital reporting)
  • Ensure execution of Indirect Tax control framework, including monitoring, documentation and continuous improvement of processes
  • Ensure full VAT compliance for countries under responsibility, including awareness and application of local regulatory changes
  • Identify risks, gaps and process improvement opportunities, and escalate or drive improvements where appropriate
  • Provide VAT guidance and support to internal stakeholders
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate provision of documentation
  • Ensure proper documentation and retention of records in line with compliance requirements
  • Collaborate within the team and provide guidance and support to less experienced colleagues
  • Provide backup support across VAT Compliance activities
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Solid experience in VAT compliance and reporting, covering multiple European jurisdictions
  • Good and practical knowledge of European VAT regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply local requirements
  • Experience in SAP, including understanding of tax determination logic and data flows supporting VAT reporting
  • Motivation to be involved in VAT-related projects (e.g. e-invoicing, SAF-T, digital reporting, system implementations or enhancements); experience in this area is an advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured and detail-oriented approach
  • Ability to identify risks, inconsistencies and improvement areas within VAT processes and reporting
  • Good understanding of accounting principles relevant for indirect taxes (GL, postings, reconciliations, settlements)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (Finance, IT)
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain VAT topics in a clear and practical way to non-tax stakeholders
  • High level of ownership, accountability and proactiveness in managing assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives
  • Experience in process improvement and/or automation initiatives is an asset
