Nutrition Action Zimbabwe is a local registered PVO operating in Zimbabwe since 2014. The organization’s primary focus is combating malnutrition in all its forms, through effective implementation of quality programming for both nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programming. NAZ’s community-based approach focuses on implementing programs that empower communities through capacity building, knowledge sharing, and promoting sustainable practices. To foster sustainable and effective interventions, NAZ works closely with national, regional, and international organizations to design and implement evidence-based nutrition programs across Zimbabwe. NAZ seeks to recruit for the aforementioned position.
Job Description
Position summary:
The Programme Intern provides administrative and operational support to the Programmes and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) teams while also supporting the operation of the organization's front desk and participant call centre. Working under the guidance and supervision of the M&E Officer and M&E Manager, the intern will assist in the effective day-to-day running of the call centre, serve as a liaison between NAZ project participants and stakeholders, and support the timely resolution, referral, and documentation of participant enquiries and complaints. The intern will assist with managing inbound and outbound calls, following established call centre protocols and referral pathways to ensure participants receive appropriate information and support.
The internship role is designed to provide structured workplace learning and practical exposure to programme implementation and MEAL systems. Throughout the internship, the incumbent will gain hands-on experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning processes, beneficiary feedback and complaints handling mechanisms, data collection and reporting, stakeholder engagement, customer service, and organizational front-office operations. The internship aims to strengthen the intern's analytical, communication, problem-solving, and professional skills while providing practical experience in development and humanitarian programme operations, thereby enhancing their employability and readiness for future careers in programme management, MEAL, and related fields.
Duties and Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:
Objective 1: Program Support
- Support the Programs department with day-to-day implementation activities, planning, reporting, and information sharing.
- Support Programs teams on relevant tasks as assigned.
- Support the Project teams in developing and maintaining project plans, timelines, and detailed implementation schedules.
- Support in consolidating reports, activity summaries and lessons learned.
- Refer feedback received to the relevant staff and follow up on responses in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with the NAZ feedback SOP.
- Keep up-to-date information about NAZ’s programs.
- Be proactive in highlighting problems or potential problems to others in a timely manner.
Objective 2: Front Desk and Call Centre
Act as the primary bridge between the organization and its supporters, managing front desk operations and the call centre.
- Answer incoming calls and emails from individuals, stakeholders and donors.
- Respond to beneficiaries’ inquiries and ensure the recording of needed information and details from the community reaching out to the toll-free line.
- Manage front desk flow by greeting visitors, verifying appointments, and routing inquiries to the correct program managers or field officers so that community needs are addressed promptly.
- Explain active projects, share information on upcoming campaigns, and distribute public-facing materials (newsletters, impact briefs, annual reports) to office visitors.
Objective 3: Supporting Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
- Support the MEAL function in data collection, documentation, learning, and stakeholder engagement.
- Conduct telephonic surveys and enter data and information from calls into the database.
- Support research and learning through gathering of information and evidence.
- Support data entry of field forms and other information.
- Support documentation and any other MEAL-related functions.
- Support telephonic project implementation activities and stakeholder collaboration.
Policy compliance – Mandatory Reporting Policy (MRP):
- Comply with all NAZ policies.
- Assist where necessary in undertaking activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by NAZ and other humanitarian workers.
Confidentiality:
- Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of NAZ acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.
Note: The role of Program Intern cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein and may be adjusted in accordance with the needs and operational circumstances of the organization. The success of the NAZ’s mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed accordingly. Therefore, the Program Intern will be required to manage all unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain flexible to perform other duties, as and when required.

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
- Currently pursuing the final year of, or recently completed (within the last 12 months), a Bachelor's Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, Statistics, Project Management, Business Administration, Risk Management, or another relevant field.
- Demonstrated interest in humanitarian and development programming, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), governance, compliance, or programme management through academic coursework, research, volunteer work, attachments, or student leadership.
- Competent level understanding of data collection, reporting, record management, and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of institutional donor requirements, humanitarian principles, compliance frameworks, or accountability standards is a distinct advantage but not a requirement.
- Previous internship, industrial attachment, volunteer, or campus-based experience in an NGO, humanitarian, or development setting will be an added advantage.
