Job Description
Position summary:
Under the guidance and supervision of the District Program Coordinator/Field Supervisor, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:
Objective 1: Transporting safely persons or goods.
- Transport safely Nutrition Action Zimbabwe employees or freight according to the planning or according to the directives of the Logistics, Admin or Programs Departments [presiding officers | team leaders].
- Be in possession of all necessary individual documentation (driving license) and vehicle documentation.
- Check the validity of the vehicle documentation.
- Report any accidents immediately to the nearest police station for the purpose of insurance claims, and to the logistics department.
- Respect the Zimbabwean traffic regulations and rules
- Adjust the speed to the road and risk conditions, in particular the speed mustn’t exceed 60 km/h in villages or populated areas.
- Respect Nutrition ‘Action Zimbabwe Standard Operating Procedures for vehicles and general employment regulations.
- Respect the manufacturer technical conditions of use for the vehicle.
Objective 2: Maintenance and check list for field trips.
The Driver has to repair minor technical problems and has to report to the Logistic department whenever there are serious breakdowns.
- Clean the vehicle inside and outside when necessary.
- Conscientiously reports information on the logbook and fuel logbook
- As part of the standard pre-departure checklist, reconcile the vehicle's physical inventory with the entries recorded in the official logbook.
- In liaison Logistics department/ admin ensure advance booking of vehicle service, fuelling to avoid program implementation delays
When a field departure is forecasted, the driver must inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before leaving and be ready for the scheduled departure time.
The driver has to prepare additional materials according to the organizational needs (additional fuel tank, stickers, flag, tools, medical and food kits, etc.)
Objective 3: Miscellaneous duties.
- Help NAZ employees as and when required with directives from the presiding officer/team leader
- Ensure that all communications tools are in working order.
- Securely handle official documents, payments or parcels as assigned
- Assist with office support tasks
- Support staff or visitors during field visits and ensure readiness for scheduled departures
- Participates in program review and meetings to provide logistical feedback and adapt to program needs.
Policy compliance – Mandatory Reporting Policy (MRP):
- Comply with all NAZ policies.
- Assist where necessary in undertaking activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by NAZ and other humanitarian workers.
Confidentiality:
- Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of NAZ acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.
Note: The role of Driver cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein and may be adjusted in accordance with the needs and operational circumstances of the organization. The success of the NAZ’s mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed accordingly. Therefore, the Driver will be required to manage all unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain flexible to perform other duties, as and when required.
Qualifications
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training.
Education:
- 5 O’Levels Certificate with pass in English and Mathematics
- Clean class 2 or 4 driving certificate
- Defensive driving certificate
- Sober character.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years relevant work experience. Previous work with NGOs highly desirable.
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
- Experience with light office duties such as filing and photocopying is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with rural roads and long-distance driving
Language Requirements:
- Must have a good command of written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of the local language is a distinct advantage and key consideration.
