Job Description
Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is seeking 2 full-time Anesthesiologists to join our collegial group of 8 other Anesthesiologists.
CBRH is a 250-bed tertiary care regional hospital that provides a broad range of care and is a surgical referral center to patients living in the Eastern Zone of Nova Scotia. Our group provides anesthetic services for approximately 10,000 operating room cases a year. In addition, we also provide obstetrical support for approximately 800 deliveries per year. We currently run 5 operating rooms daily with the ability of expansion to 7 ORs. The CBRH expansion which is currently underway, will house eight new surgical suites and a cardiac catheterization lab.
There is opportunity to engage in research and/or have medical teaching positions with Dalhousie University, should that be of interest.
Responsibilities
- Provide anesthesia services at Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Glace Bay Hospital for a variety of surgical services including: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dental Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery. Applicants must be comfortable managing pediatric patients.
- Participate fully in on call coverage (including overnight and weekends) and acute pain services
- Participate in our preoperative assessment clinic
- Participate in medical student and resident education
- The physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Anesthesia for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
- Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
- Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
- Opportunity to offer services in the Pain Clinic if desired

Remuneration
- Estimated annual salary $500-525,000 CAD
- Fee for Service (Pain Clinic services are paid at a sessional rate)

Qualifications
- All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- All specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada(RCPSC)
- Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or proof of alternative coverage.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support(BCLS)
