Duties: The Systems Software Engineer Consultant at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, WI will engineer Websphere, IBM Puresystems, Amazon AWS and cloud foundry environments and their add-on functions in accordance with best practices and policy.  The duties include: designing highly available, scalable, and resilient solutions to meet business requirements; providing Tier 4 escalation point to middleware operations team; developing processes to pro-actively monitor the performance of the web environment; developing and implementing processes to optimize performance; certifying new product releases, major functionality, and architectural designs for use; defining/automating services through orchestration tools; participating in SDLC and project governance processes; developing and automating solutions in support of development operations methodologies; providing leadership in planning for the future infrastructure, and proposing new directions and technologies; assisting in the design of E-business system high-availability, disaster recovery, and application fail-over; providing leadership and unique insights in the analysis of customer business requirements that cross multiple technical platforms, and have broad strategic implications; developing technical specifications for the most complex solutions; providing technical mentoring to more junior team members, and developers, and raising the bar of technical expertise within the organization; proposing and developing new technical standards and developing migration plans for future technology infrastructure; ensuring the transfer of knowledge through documentation, on-the-job training, technical presentations, and on-going technical coaching; initiating strategic projects that will add significant value to the business; acting as a technical project lead or key technical resource for a project team and providing consultation to multiple project teams; maintaining a network of peers to improve ability to solve system problems, identify best practices, and assess new technologies and their value.

 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related discipline plus five years of progressive experience supporting large LINUX, AIX & Cloud environments. The five years of experience must include five years of experience in installing, maintaining, and supporting IBM Websphere application server products on LINUX, AIX, and Windows. Must also have three years of experience in each of the following 1) provisioning middleware and application components using Amazon AWS and pivotal cloud foundry; 2) DevOps, Agile, Safe, Continuous Release or other software and infrastructure processes; and 3) working with Apigee Edge API management platform.
