What's the role?

 

As the Political Advocacy Manager, you will plan and implement Government Relations grassroots activities. Related duties will include running the network “delegate” program, serving as the first point of contact for Northwestern Mutual grassroots advocates, developing grassroots outreach activities at the company’s annual and regional meetings, coordinating with other departments to develop new outreach opportunities, and working with trade associations and industry peers.

 

You will handle 3 corporate political action committees (PACs) – the Federal PAC, the Wisconsin PAC, and the Wisconsin Individual Political Contribution Accounts. Your additional tasks include planning and coordinating annual PAC solicitations for home office employees and managing partners, developing familiarity with federal and state compliance rules, serving as liaison with the PAC boards, and coordinating with the Law Department, Controller, and external compliance personnel.

 

You will maintain relationships with contractors providing grassroots functionality and coordinate technology projects related to these efforts. Related duties of yours include maintaining internal and public-facing political advocacy websites as well as related software and databases.

 

You will develop and compile content for communications related to Northwestern Mutual’s grassroots activities.

 

You will represent Northwestern Mutual as appropriate before lawmakers, congressional staffers, and industry coalitions.

 

You will support the Government Relations team on special projects or initiatives on an as-needed basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • You have two years of experience in with advocacy, PACs, government relations and/or legislative environments.
  • Strong organizational, written and oral communication are skills of yours
  • You have PowerPoint and Excel experience, and like working with new technologies.
  • Your ability to work independently on a regular basis.
  • Your willingness to travel (>10% of the time.)
  • It is preferable that you have previous experience working in a congressional office.
  • You should have demonstrated ability to be flexible and take on new challenges or assignments.
