Job Description

The Simulation Operations Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides day-to-day oversight and instruction to skull base simulation lab users on technically complex procedures, equipment & instruments.
  • Manages all aspects of international surgical simulation course, including finances, CME, vendor partnerships, logistics, and more.
  • Submits grant applications to support operational and educational programming of the Skull Base Lab. Collaborate with surgical director on projects as needed. Liaise with education coordinators of neurological surgery and otolargynology as needed on curriculum and logistics. 
  • Must be excellent communicator with physicians, leadership, residents, and external partners.
  • Manages all aspects of technical support for surgical training programs (GME, UME, CME, non-CME) including medical students, residents, fellows, faculty and visiting physicians and visiting trainees across multiple departments including Neurological Surgery and Otolaryngology.
  • Manages all aspects of skull base lab safety protocols.
  • Provides open access of skills labs to residents, fellows and trainees as needed for their individual development. 
  • Is independently responsible for managing international continuing medical education (CME) course for skull base pathologies, and other CME courses as assigned by Departmental leadership. Includes technical, administrative, and financial oversight.
  • Develop & administer budgets, grants, &/or administrative procedures.
  • Partners with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal lab function, including but not limited to, surgical supply vendors, cadaver labs, simulation lab, and others.
  • Manages relationships with all relevant vendors and proactively develops relationships with new vendors. 
  • Responsible for proactively identifying extramural funding opportunities to support educational and operational functions of the lab and to offset annual expenditures.
  • Plans, develops & implements new experiments & protocols to support research studies & maximize/extend lab capabilities. 
  • Sets-up & troubleshoots custom protocols & conducts independent research techniques, procedures & experiments. 
  • Co-authors scientific papers for presentation & publication.   
  • Ensures adherence to all associated biosafety rules & regulations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in biology or medical/neurosciences field and 2 years of experience.
  • Supervisory or project management experience.
  • Experience managing simulation lab activities and/or continuing medical education activities.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates and budgeting

Preferred:

  • Knowledge in the neurosciences, simulation laboratories, and/or cancer biology.
  • Identifying and/or acquiring new equipment and/or facilities.
  • Creating data for use in grant submission and developing new proposals to support education and research including obtaining financial support.
