Job Description

  • Manages the Office of Research functions to ensure research safety and compliance at NMHC:
    • Identifies, analyzes and addresses emerging federal and state regulations regarding research on human subjects and billing for research activities.
    • Upholds the NMHC policy on patient confidentiality and HIPAA procedures as well as other relevant research policies and procedures.
    • Manages study pre-review approval process on new project submissions.
    • Designs and/or approves external communication on research protocols and compliance.
    • Provides communications to principal investigators, research coordinators/administrators, and the research community as needed to meet requirements and/or regulations.
  • Facilitates research administration activities for studies at NMHC:
    • Provides guidance to NMHC managers regarding policy interpretation and related procedures, with particular emphasis on the protection of research volunteers and appropriate billing for research activities.
    • Provides consultation and expertise to NU faculty and staff, principal investigators, and the affiliate research community conducting research involving NMHC.
    • Oversee preparation/maintenance of state/federal reports as required, e.g. annual EAM, NMH Federal Wide Assurance. Maintains an accurate and expanding knowledge of GCP, federal regulations and overall research administration.
    • Identify and track process and outcome measures for the department and report results as appropriate.
    • Assumes responsibility for professional development of staff in the Office of Research.
    • Initiate and engage in ongoing process improvement to streamline access to NMHC for research projects.

Schedule: M-F, days; no nights/weekends/holidays/on-call

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in business, health administration, or relevant professional area.
  • The candidate should have at least five (5) years of research administration experience preferably in an academic medical center.
  • Managerial or supervisory experience with strong leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with the laws, regulations and standards relating to research compliance as well as Institutional Review Boards.
  • Experience with research and sponsored projects management.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of educational programs, public speaking, and/or training.
  • Knowledge of budgetary and human resource management.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with various constituencies.

Preferred:

  • An advanced clinical and/or law degree.
  • Some reimbursement, finance and/or accounting experience.
  • Outstanding analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to design and develop spreadsheets and presentations.
