Job Description

The Blood Gas Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing exacting laboratory measurements on whole blood supernatants and other fluids.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, calibrations and repairs on various lab equipment.
  • Identifies, corrects and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting.
  • Acquires specialized knowledge of Respiratory Therapy modalities and cardiopulmonary physiology essential for assessing the compatibility of laboratory data to the patient's condition.
  • Compiles daily statistics as directed.
  • Communicates with physicians, nurses, therapists and other clinical personnel to achieve optimal patient care.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or two years of college training in a health related science.
  • Laboratory experience.
