Job Description

The Radiation Therapy Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Radiation Therapy Assistant, TTA, assists in maintaining the patient flow within the center by greeting and escorting patients to and from the dressing, treatment and exam rooms. This position is responsible for answering any non-clinical questions, ensuring that clinical questions are addressed by the appropriate clinician, assisting patients with the identification process, gowning, restroom visits, and communicating with waiting family members/companions. The incumbent may be required to assist the treatment team with treatment room/exam room set up, and dismantling set ups. In addition, the TTA will re-stock clean linens and remove soiled linens from treatment/dressing/exam areas. These duties may require lifting of heavy equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Competent in managing all treatment room scheduling duties including calling patients or care givers, arranging transportation, utilizing interpreter services, and monitoring the electronic scheduling systems information and communicating to proton radiation therapists to ensure proficient workflow.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties as directed.
  • Works with care team, e.g. RTTs, RNs, as directed, to assure patient satisfaction and comfort.
  • Greets patients and assist with treatment preparation.
  • Performs patient identification procedures following center policy.
  • Assists patients with gowning, restroom visits and education.
  • Answers non-clinical questions, referring patient to appropriate clinician for clinical questions.
  • Communicates progress to waiting family members/companions.
  • Lifts heavy equipment (e.g. brass apertures) for various treatment procedures.
  • Re-stocks clean linen and removes soiled linen in dressing rooms, exam rooms and treatment rooms.
  • Escorts patients between all areas of the treatment center and/or to the adjacent CDH cancer center, if needed.
  • Assists RTTs with stocking rooms and retrieving equipment for new patient starts.
  • Cleans/neatens dressing area between patients, contacts housekeeping if required.
  • Works with the care team to manage treatment room schedules and communicates to the patient.
  • Performs other various administrative duties including but not limited to input documents, center communications of patient lists, front desk patient services, arranging transportation, overseeing skill appropriate competencies.

Qualifications

Required:

  • One year of related Health Care expierence 
  • High School Diploma.
  • Understands and abides by the regulations of patient confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Problem solving.
  • Ability to work flexible hours if needed.
  • Computer skills, including Word and Outlook.
  • BLS.
