Oppenheimer Funds is looking for an Enterprise Architect that will join the Corporate Technology Group’s Enterprise Architecture team. The candidate should ideally come from a financial industry background with experience in investments and asset management, working in complex data and application environments, distributed systems/platforms, etc. The successful candidate would ideally be a “hands-on” Enterprise Architect that has come up through the ranks (application, data, infrastructure development). They should have the ability to work in all aspects of the IT lifecycle, but especially early on in the process.
Job Purpose:
The Enterprise Architect will be responsible for helping to define and execute on the IT strategy, evaluating technologies, defining standards, designing solution and reference architectures, and documenting and managing the implementation of multi-year roadmaps that solve stated business problems. The Enterprise Architect is responsible for providing thought-leadership, advocacy, articulation, assurance and maintenance of the Enterprise Architecture discipline. The Enterprise Architect coordinates the development of architectural frameworks and leads the population of these frameworks with coherent and consistent architectural views.
The Enterprise Architect has a responsibility for ensuring the completeness of the architecture, in terms of adequately addressing all the pertinent concerns of its stakeholders and the integrity of the architecture, in terms of connecting all the various views to each other, satisfactorily reconciling the conflicting concerns of different stakeholders, and showing the trade-offs made in so doing.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience:
•Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certifications
•Financial industry expertise (Investments, Asset Management, etc.)
•10 years of IT experience developing strategic plans, business requirement gathering/analysis, and system design and development
•5 years developing solution architectures and strategies across multiple architecture domains (application, data, integration, infrastructure and security) involving multiple of the following technologies: integration/middleware, mobile, web technologies, service oriented architecture, mainframe
•Solid experience with one or more of the following technologies: Big Data Analytics, Java (Spring, Grails), Web Services (JSON/XML), RESTful architectures, Web 2.0
•2 years in an enterprise architecture role and collaborating with business partners to ensure architectures deliver on business objectives
•Demonstrated competency applying architecture frameworks and development methods, including at least one of the following: TOGAF, DoDAF, Zachman, FEAF, Gartner.
•Experience in development of Reference Architectures
Preferred Skills and Experience:
•Technology Focus - Strong background in either integration architectures or big data analytics will be highly advantageous. This will provide a specialist technology focus that will be key for the Enterprise Architect.
•EA Tools - Direct experience using Enterprise Architecture Tools such as Mega, Troux, Orbus, etc.
•Methodology - Experience managing the delivery of both Waterfall and Agile SDLC methodologies
•R&D - Ability to lead technical evaluations and conduct R&D in emerging technologies
Technology skills are not the only skills needed. There are other skills that are highly desirable in the Enterprise Architect, including:
•People Skills - The Enterprise Architect is required to interact with people constantly.
•Motivational – The Enterprise Architect must be able to motivate and inspire. A large part of the job is to influence or evangelize a set of ideals in the enterprise.
•Negotiation - There will be times at the decision-making when the Enterprise Architect must negotiate to get things accomplished, even when not granted the organizational power.
•Problem Solving – The Enterprise Architect will face a set of complex and unique problems, so they must be able to evaluate and solve problems.
•Big Thinking – The Enterprise Architect must avoid tunnel vision and be able to look at a problem from multiple angles.
•Business savvy – Essential understanding of the financial industry, to help understand how technology can really affect the business.
•Process Orientation - Thinking in terms of process is essential for the Enterprise Architect. Building repea and reusable processes as both artifacts from the work they do as well as how they work themselves.
•Previous successful consulting organization experience could demonstrate a number of these types of skills.
