Job Description

Provide technical leadership in the area of materials joining in the Global Services Engineering and Core Manufacturing Engineering group. Assist Discipline Chief with managing discipline health in Welding/Joining by defining, creating, and maintaining standard procedures/practices and training materials in materials joining for the design, manufacturing and repairing of aerospace engine components. Lead a Process Leverage Team of Welding Engineers and/or Manufacturing Engineers proficient in welding/joining to develop and implement new/revised, standard work, training and welding/joining processes for manufacturing and repair, proactively identifying issues associated with producibility in the design stage, and resolving problems associated with production or product delivery. Author, execute, and manage projects/tasks aimed at technology development including transition and implementation of emerging technology in the area related to materials joining. Provide technical support to engineering, manufacturing, repair overhaul operations and suppliers in the area of materials joining including root cause investigation, process improvement, process control, process variation management and quality requirements. Participate in integrated product teams in OEM and Repair to provide expert engineering judgment in selection of material joining process, and address the adequacy of specific material joining process on material properties and product performance. Document and communicate materials joining solutions and lessons learned to support Pratt & Whitney business in the area of materials joining.

 

Qualifications

BS in materials science and engineering or welding engineering.

5 years of strong experience in the metallurgy of materials and joining processes commonly utilized in the aerospace engine industry

Strong background on the effect of joining process on microstructure and property during welding and after welding of aerospace materials

Strong background and experience on hands-on joining processes commonly used on gas turbine engines
