Job Description

A casualty adjuster investigates, evaluates, and negotiates settlements of claims in an office setting. Casualty Adjusters work out in our Field, Out-of-State (OOS), Material Damage (MD), and Medical Claims (MC) District Claims Offices.

*This position will be for our OOS Department.

Qualifications

SPECIAL TRAINING, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
A bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience is preferred. Good oral and written communication skills are also required. Must be able to conduct business in a professional manner by telephone or written communication and must be able to deal effectively with the public in stressful situations. Dependable, responsible person must be able to work independently and as a team member. Maintain CE in compliance with N.C. Department of Insurance and N.C. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company requirements.

Familiarity with medical/legal terminology is desired for work in our Field, OOS and MC offices. Knowledge of auto body repair is desired for work in our Field and MD offices.

MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION:
1. Verify coverage on loss assignments.
2. Promptly contact, and maintain contact, with insureds and claimants.
3. Establish reserves and update as needed.
4. Comply with regulatory guidelines.
5. Determine covered damages using provided resources.
6. Investigate losses and apply policy coverage.
7. Determine legal liability for losses and damages.
8. Effect payment or denial of claims.
9. Maintain current, detailed notes and report on details of claims in various stages of development.
10. Manage/control expenses.
11. Attend various meetings/classes on behalf of the company.
12. Additional duties deemed necessary by management.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SENIOR CASUALTY ADJUSTER:
1. Recommendation from the District Claim Manager and Regional Claim Manager.
2. Five years of service as a Casualty Adjuster or equivalent adjusting position with N.C. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, Inc.
3. Satisfactory completion of all required industry coursework.
4. Successfully pass tests on contracts written by the company.
5. Successfully pass tests on general claims knowledge, company background and organization information.
