Job Description

We are seeking a Platform Engineer who specialises in building and supporting Kubernetes platforms for multiple business units and teams. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, managing, and continuously improving a robust, scalable, and multi-tenanted Kubernetes platform used across Nine's digital and media properties.

Your expertise will enable application teams to deploy, monitor, and scale their services efficiently while ensuring the underlying platform remains highly reliable, secure, and optimised. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and adopting modern DevOps practices to deliver a seamless platform experience.

  • Design, implement, and maintain a scalable and secure Kubernetes platform to support workloads for multiple business units.
  • Collaborate with developers to enable smooth onboarding, deployment, and operations of containerised applications.
  • Build automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines to manage Kubernetes resources and clusters.
  • Optimise the platform for multi-tenancy, ensuring fair resource allocation, security isolation, and cost efficiency.
  • Integrate the platform with observability solutions, enabling teams to monitor logs, metrics, and traces effectively.
  • Define and enforce platform best practices, including resource usage policies, security standards, and operational guidelines.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for teams adopting Kubernetes, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
  • Support the lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, scaling, and incident resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements, incorporating robust auditability and access controls into the platform.

Qualifications

You will have a deep passion for platform engineering, with a strong customer-first mindset. You’re a natural collaborator who thrives in solving complex challenges and enabling teams to succeed at scale.

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive experience building and managing Kubernetes platforms in cloud or hybrid environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure preferred).

  • Strong expertise in container orchestration, including workload scaling, networking, and storage within Kubernetes.

  • Proficiency with automation tools such as Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD platforms.

  • Experience integrating Kubernetes with observability stacks, particularly open-source tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and Tempo.

  • Knowledge of securing Kubernetes environments, including RBAC, network policies, and image scanning.

  • Advanced scripting and programming skills (e.g., Go, Python, Shell).

  • Familiarity with managing multi-tenanted platforms, ensuring fair resource sharing and cost optimisation.

  • Experience supporting development teams with deployment pipelines, troubleshooting, and production readiness.

  • AWS, GCP, or Azure certifications are highly regarded.
