Job Description

This is a 15 month fixed term contract role

Your role is responsible for the IT Network and Communications function within the Nine group. This spans the Publishing, TV and Radio Broadcast functions as well as Group Services. 

You’ll be comfortable leading a team of Network engineers and architects and managing their operational and project work slates to ensure operational excellence and project delivery on-time and on-budget.

Stakeholder management will be a key part of your role, working with your internal customers to understand their business and technical requirements. You’ll work collaboratively with your customers and other technical teams to design, deploy and support first class network solutions which help Nine deliver quality content to its customers.

You’ll partner with Nine Technology’s Commercial team to manage relationships with various telcos and vendors, running RFIs and RFQs as required.

Key accountabilities: 

  • Ensuring high-uptime of Nine’s network infrastructure (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, WiFi, Load Balancing, Cloud Networking, OT Networks, Telephony and Network Links/Connectivity) through effective monitoring, lifecycle management and capacity planning

  • Adherence to and enforcement of company policies and procedures, with a particular focus on security

  • Work with stakeholders and PMO to ensure that both business and technology projects are adequately resourced and funded for successful on-time delivery 

  • Design and cost network solutions in conjunction with the network architect to meet project requirements. 

  • Work with finance to set and manage expenditure to budget, ensuring sufficient investment to keep networks modern, supportable and fit-for-purpose.

  • People management; training, motivating and directing employees to optimise workplace productivity and promote professional growth

Qualifications

Essential 

  • Previous experience in a networking and communications leadership and management role

  • Solid understanding of key network technologies including:

    • Routing Protocols - incl BGP, OSPF

    • Layer2 Protocols - incl BFD, LLDP, STP, vPC

    • WiFi

    • Multicast

    • PTP & NTP

    • Firewalling & NAT

    • VPN and GRE

    • Cloud Networking

  • Solid understanding of security principles (incl Hardening, Zero Trust principles, SIEM)

  • Experience with Vulnerability and Patch Management of network equipment

  • Good commercial acumen and experience with managing budgets

  • Experience working with telecommunications providers. A solid understanding of their products, services and commercial models - incl MPLS, VPLS, IX, DF & Wavelength services, DoSP, 95th percentile billing

  • Ability to manage vendors to drive good commercial outcomes and service/support arrangements

Desirable

  • Experience in the media industry, preferably with networks supporting production and playout of broadcast video or SVOD.

  • Previous hands-on experience with routing and switching (Cisco IOS-XE and NXOS devices preferred), firewalling (Fortinet suite preferred), WiFi (Cisco suite preferred) and cloud networking (AWS & GCP preferred)

  • Experience with fixed voice and SIP

  • Experience deploying spine/leaf networks (VxLAN BGP EVPN preferred)

  • Experience using network automation (Ansible preferred)

  • Experience with ITIL concepts and tools (ServiceNow preferred)

  • Experience with SMPTE 2110 (industry-specific standards suite dealing with the carriage and synchronisation of uncompressed media streams over IP for real-time production and playout)

  • Experience with Logic Monitor
